A new use for Wisconsin-grown soybeans is helping protect firefighters and the environment.
The Wisconsin Soybean Marketing Board will mark the donation of a pallet of soy-based firefighting foam to the Fitchburg Fire Department during an event March 25 in Fitchburg.
SoyFoam TF1122, developed by Cross Plains Solutions, is made from soybeans and offers a renewable, PFAS-free alternative to traditional petroleum-based firefighting foams.
“This partnership shows how Wisconsin soybeans can help protect both people and the planet,” said Jonathan Gibbs, president of the Wisconsin Soybean Marketing Board (WSMB). “We’re proud to support the Fitchburg Fire Department and demonstrate how agriculture is fueling new solutions for our communities.”
The event will highlight how soybeans grown in Wisconsin are being used in innovative products across industries, including firefighting technology designed to reduce environmental impact while maintaining effectiveness in emergency response.
WSMB funded the donation through the state’s soybean checkoff program, which supports research, market development and education aimed at expanding the use of soy in new products and industries.
The Fitchburg Fire Department was selected to receive the soy-based foam through a Wisconsin Soybean Marketing Board SoyFoam campaign targeting all professional departments earlier this year.
Media are invited to attend the event, which will take place at 11 a.m. March 25 at the Fitchburg Fire Department, 5791 Lacy Road in Fitchburg.
Members of the Wisconsin Soybean Marketing Board and Fitchburg firefighters are expected to attend.
