It’s a new era of growth for Northern Soy Marketing (NSM).

During its June board meeting in Bloomington, Minn., the NSM board elected its officers for Fiscal Year 2025, which began July 1. Beaver Dam, Wis. farmer Nancy Kavazanjian was slated to return as treasurer.

“The second year is always a little easier than the first year,” said Kavazanjian, who represents Wisconsin on the United Soybean Board. “I’m excited to serve another term as treasurer and to help focus NSM’s regional efforts.”

Tasked with making wise soybean checkoff investments toward research, promotion and education, the Wisconsin Soybean Marketing Board’s (WSMB) membership in NSM is just one avenue where checkoff dollars are working to increase export opportunities for Wisconsin soybeans through education.

“Checkoff investments are carefully thought out by the board with the entire state in mind,” Kavazanjian said. “Membership in NSM gives Wisconsin soybean growers a partner that is continually working to educate our international buyers about the value of northern-grown soy.”

Minnesota farmer Glen Groth (pronounced Growth) was elected as chair, replacing Benson, Minn., farmer Patrick O’Leary, who remains on the board as a director.

“I’m excited to represent NSM and continue promoting our soy quality message to our international customers,” said Groth, who farms near Ridgeway. “We grow a premium product that’s grown with care, and as we move into FY25, I’m looking forward to meeting more customers, learning what their needs are and figuring out ways that we can meet those needs.”

South Dakota Research and Promotion Council (SDSRPC) Chairman David Struck was appointed as NSM vice chair.

“NSM represents the northern tier of soybean states,” Struck said, “so I’m eager to serve as vice chair and continue giving soybean growers in our member states their own voice.”

Along with FY25 officer elections, NSM’s June board meeting featured budget reviews, administrative reports and a Fiscal Year 2024 recap. With the end of FY24 right around the corner, NSM is looking forward to capitalizing on the momentum it has built and continuing to promote the nutritional and financial advantages of northern-grown soy.
